At the Prestwick North Community Council meeting held on Tuesday the 27th February 2007, the community councillors discussed various issues of interest within their boundaries.
PC Colin McBeth (Community PC) reported that from 31st January 2007 to 27th February 2007, there were 91 crime reports raised in the Prestwick area, of which 48 resulted in reports going to the Procurator Fiscal.
As part of the ongoing Drinks Initiative, one local off-licence has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for selling alcohol to two 16 year old males. Also, a 43 year old female reported for purchasing and supplying alcohol to a 14 year old youth.
A spate of 5 incidents of vandalism occurred on Saturday 17th February as a group of youths (believed to be four) walked from the Main Street to the Oval area. These included shop and car windows being smashed. Enquiries are ongoing at this time.
As everyone should now be aware, the use of hand-held telephones in vehicles now carries a much higher penalty if caught. The Police will stop all offenders as a matter of course.
A planning application has been received by South Ayrshire Council for a change of use and alterations of a Class 1 Retail Unit to form a Class 2 Betting Office at the former Jet Set shop (72-74 Main Street). An application for a Betting Licence was also received. It was unanimously agreed that an objection be lodged for both these applications.
The “Right of way” at Elliotts premises on the Main Street has still not been re-opened. A letter will be sent to SAC for an update on this matter.
