Prestwick North Community Council held their Annual General Meeting followed by their monthly meeting in Council Chambers,
Links Road, Prestwick on 30th May 2006 .
There were a number of
items discussed;The Chairperson introduced Mr Roddy MacDonald who, as Head of
Project for the Public Private Partnership re-building of Prestwick Academy
explained the background to the project and what it will entail. He said that
the specification will be of a high standard, and that they will make sure
that they work closely with pupils, the school board and parents. There will be
a 'Lifelong Learning Suite' which will also be accessible to Community
Groups.
The demolition and construction programme is so designed as to minimize disruption to the academic year. Local resident's concerns have also been accounted for, and the Consortium involved in building the project will arrange to meet with the local residents and talk over their concerns with them.
The investment to Prestwick will be considerable. In other matters; South Ayrshire Council has the highest need for affordable housing with a present shortfall per annum of 410 homes. Prestwick beach is set to fail the new E. U. Standards for Sewage Limits concerning Bacterial Pollution. Prestwick is one of eighteen beaches that will fail; The A79 Trunk Road from the Prestwick rondabout up to the Monktonhill roundabout is to be deignated as a Clearway; Figures drawn up for the period 2001 - 2005/6 South Ayrshire Council spent £ 816,500. 00 on reparing vandalised schools; In the Summer edition of the Environmental times the Pow Burn has now been declared a 'Haven for Wildlife';
The first meeting to form a Steering Group for the Youth Project met in the Parkstone Hotel on the 18th May 2006; The Next meeting will be on Tuesday 27th June at 7. 00 p. m. in the Council Chambers at Links Rd Prestwick. All Community Council Meetings are open to and welcome members of the public.
