Press Release - 25th April
2006
Prestwick North Community Council held their
monthly meeting in Council Chambers, Links Road, Prestwick on 25th April
2006 There were a number of items discussed; Councillor Spurling and
Community Councillor Margaret Adams from Dundonald addressed the meeting on an
initiative that Dundonald spearheaded, in conjunction with a proposal of the
adoption of Community Christmas Lights for Prestwick.
Dundonald already has this scheme and it has proven to be very successful.; Car parking by people using Prestwick Airport instead of using the Airport car parks is still a serious problem in Prestwick and hopefully the new Traffic Orders will go some way to deal with the situation; Suggestion that more disabled parking bays should be considered on the South side of Station Road.
Councillor Toner stated that this might prove difficult as Prestwick already has the statutory required number of disabled parking bays allocated; Councillor Hunter spoke about a newly launched campaign to combat underage drinking, aimed at stopping the supply of alcohol to youngsters; Councillor Moonie said that on the matter of Safe Routes to School some schools had adopted Youth Traffic Patrols, whereby children are actively involved working with other children and parents encouraging them to find alternative methods of getting to school, and also the parking of vehicles in a responsibly;
There is an active Fair Trade movement gathering momentum, with Marks and Spencer proposing to dedicate a range of products across the board; A Beech hedge has now been planted along East Road which when established replace the old post and wire fencing; A paper submitted to the C.E.O of Prestwick Airport, Mr Rodwell, regarding the treatment and 'handling' of disabled passengers has been replied to, but there are still a number of issues not answered satisfactorily and these will now be addressed; Still awaiting an update on the bus stop situation from Alexandra Ave to Marchburn; Discussions have taken place between South Ayrshire Council and the Community Council on the proposed new 'Adopt a Street' initiative, generated by the Community Council in conjunction with Prestwick Academy in order to clean up the streets of Prestwick of litter and chewing gum, which all comes under the wider aspect of Civic Pride.
The date proposed for the launch has been set for Saturday 17th June. The Next meeting will follow the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 30th May at 7. 00 p. m. in the Council Chambers at Links Rd Prestwick. All Community Council Meetings are open to and welcome members of the public.
