Press Release - 28th February 2006

Prestwick North Community Council held their monthly meeting in Council Chambers, Links Road, Prestwick on 28th February 2006. There were a number of items discussed; reminder that the banning of smoking in public places comes into force on 26th March 2006; an initiative has commenced called Interactive Youth in Prestwick, which, through visiting the Academy, intends to make the youngsters aware of alcohol, drugs etc.

Cllr Paterson said that Prestwick is the first place to try this initiative, and the Council have a very good Monitoring Officer; issue was also raised about speeding vehicles in Outdale Avenue and Marchburn Avenue. The situation is being monitored. Vandalism, once again, was discussed with comment made that there seems to be an ever increasing decrease of Police Officers out on the streets.

It was said that the reason that there is so much 'activity' is that there is not enough Police on the streets. There is a lack of resources, and as such there are no 'field' staff to go out and deal with incidents. If something happens in Ayr then the Prestwick Police are called to assist and Prestwick is left without cover. It is reprted that vandalism is on the increase. Other matters discussed were the Youth Project, and the disapproval of the drunk Scotsman sign over the bar at Prestwick Airport.

Regarding the Post Office at Prestwick Cross, the Community Council now realises that this is a Sub Post Office, and that the new sub Postmaster, when he gets the lease, has a raft of improvements that will make the post office a place that the Prestwick people can be proud of. Prestwick North Community Council wish him well with his endeavour. The Next meeting will be on Tuesday 28th March at 7. 00 p. m. in the Council Chambers at Links Rd Prestwick. All Community Council Meetings are open to and welcome members of the public.
