Press Release - 31st January 2006
Prestwick North Community Council held their monthly meeting in Council Chambers, Links Road, Prestwick on 31st January 2006. There were a number of items discussed; Proposed new climbing frame and slide for the Play Area in Boydfield Gardens.
Question was raised as to whether the equipment would be ' vandal proof ' ; Cllr Toner said that vandalism is rife and is a serious problem that is difficult to keep on top of.On the same topic, Cllr Toner also said that the Christmas Tree Lights on the Tree at Prestwick Cross have not yet been lit as the electricty mains cupboard had been vandalised. South Ayrshire Council are having a review of Waste Management needs, and are looking into joining with other local councils for the possibility of sharing a Waste Disposal Plant.
The Chairperson thanked the Police, Clergy, The 65 Club, Prestwick Academy and all those who participated and assisted at the Remembrance Day Service at Prestwick Cross. However the day was marred when, after the event, the sound system was stolen. It was the Secretary's opinion that the camera at the Cross should now be motorised to enable all round vision.
The Vice-Chairperson reminded the Community to be careful of their homes especially at this time of year, as there have already been a number of localised break -ins. Dog fouling still seems to be an issue, and people are reminded that 'dog poo bags' can be obtained from the Council Offices at Prestwick Cross, and the Prestwick Library.
The matter of the Council's attempt at Beach Cleaning was also raised, particularly the Council's method of lifting all the rubbish on Prestwick beach and putting it into the sea, whereby the next morning it's all washed up again.
The public area of the General Post Office at the Cross is filthy, there is no proper queuing system, and depite there being upwards of three clerks on duty it is deemed necessary to close for lunch. The queuing system was further highlighted as at times the queue can spill outside the door, which is not good for the elderly and disabled if it's cold and raining.
The date of the next meeting was set at Tuesday 31st January 2006 in the Links Rd Chambers at 7.00 p.m. All Community Council Meetings are open to and welcome members of the public.
